Climate Justice and Environmental Rights

Climate policy read through the question of who carries the cost — and who is at the table when it is decided.

Adaptation, mitigation and loss and damage are not technical problems alone. They are distributive ones. My work applies a rights-based lens to climate governance so that gender, age, disability, class and place shape policy rather than sit outside it.

Children's Rights and Intergenerational Justice

Moving children from a category of vulnerability to a constituency with standing, voice and protection.

Children carry a disproportionate share of climate harm and hold almost none of the decision-making power. Working with the AU ACERWC working group, SADC child-led structures and multi-country partnerships, I build the legal and programmatic architecture for children's participation and protection.

Environment and Energy Law

The legal machinery of the just transition — extraction, energy, and the rights that constrain both.

Ongoing LLM specialisation in environment and energy law at the University of Birmingham underpins research on mineral extraction, just energy transition and the enforcement gap between constitutional environmental rights and industrial practice.

ESG, Green Enterprise and Climate Finance

Making sustainability commercially real for Southern African SMEs, rather than a reporting exercise for large firms.

ESG frameworks were designed for listed multinationals and then handed down to small enterprises that cannot carry the compliance load. The work here is to build inclusive green enterprise pathways, proportionate ESG systems and climate finance that actually reaches the businesses doing the adapting.

Customary Governance and Indigenous Knowledge

Adaptation systems that hold because the institutions delivering them are seen as legitimate.

Research on customary authority, conservation and rural governance in post-FTLRP Zimbabwe shows how adaptation fails where local institutional legitimacy is absent. Indigenous knowledge is treated here as governance infrastructure, not folklore.

Water Security and Community Resilience

Water is where climate change is first felt — and where resilience is most cheaply built.

From establishing a water and sanitation department linking water management to climate-smart agriculture, to current programming on integrated climate action, my work treats water security as the practical entry point to both urban and rural resilience.

Research, Evidence and Institutional Capacity

Evidence is only useful once an institution can act on it.

Across governments, civil society networks and regional partners, I design monitoring, evaluation and learning systems, deliver training and accountability frameworks, and publish research that informs continental policy conversations.
